Forget Trends - Do What Sings to Your Heart
Our home was built in 1986. The ceilings have a layer of popcorn like texture and the overall aesthetic when we bought it wasn't really us. However, we saw potential. The back yard was beautiful and opens up to a tree farm that is well kept. It's picturesque and a wonderful place for my children to create their own adventures.
Inside, potential came in the form of 12 foot high ceilings with wooden beams and a brick fireplace that warms up the room. This room, with the right paint and the right amount of TLC was going to be the gem of the house. I just knew it!
With a base layer of tiffany blue paint, I added an accent wall of native Louisiana birds. We elevated our space. The total cost : $50 for the base paint. The acrylics used for the Japanese magnolias and birds, I already had on hand. Total labor time - 15 - 20 hours give or take.
When we first bought the home, the trend was all white and grey walls. We did this and it didn't really speak to us, but we knew this wasn't our forever home so we shrugged it off. Little did we know 2020 was right around the corner and interest rates were going to sky rocket. Now, it looks like we'll be in our home longer than we intended and we've decided to love every inch of our home. In making that conscious and intentional decision, we've noticed how much happier and relaxed we are in the spaces we inhabit.
We did not follow any trends. We just created spaces that felt beautiful to us.
Whether it's through creating a mural or creating a gallery wall of art, it's worth creating a space that reflects who you are and what you value.
